Restarting My Fitness Journey

My fitness journey has been a never-ending cycle of starting and restarting. In other words, I have been inconsistently consistent.

I have done sports all my life until I graduated college in 2017. First, I had to learn how to continue working out without a strict sports schedule or coach. Then, once I got consistent in my fitness journey, things changed. I got married, and not too long after that; I got pregnant.

RESTARTING ONCE AGAIN

So here I am now, a mom of a soon-to-be toddler (my son is one), and I have only just recently had success with being consistent in my workout routine. And the best part is I have seen results!

As a mom, I was scared that I wasn’t going to get back into shape. However, now I believe I have the key to get into shape successfully.

I used to think self-determination was enough, but I was wrong. Even as a previous collegiate athlete, I struggled with staying consistent. I would do the workout and go hard, but I struggled to continue to go to the gym. Even after I put a gym in my garage, I could not stay consistent. That is until I recently restarted my fitness journey.

THE FIRST STEP TO A SUCCESSFUL FITNESS JOURNEY

Choose the best workouts for YOU: Make working out fun!

So what did I do?
I did workouts that were fun to me. For example, I love basketball, so I started playing basketball on our outside hoop.

To be honest, I didn’t even know I was getting into shape until I finally did one of my track workouts. It was then that I realized I could do the workout with ease compared to before. By having fun with basketball, I had been getting back into shape.

FUN WAYS TO WORKOUT

The cool thing about exercising is that there are plenty of fun activities we can do: workouts.

For example,

  • Gardening is an upper arm workout.
  • Shopping has a lot of walking where you can get some cardio, especially if you speed up those steps.
  • Dancing in the mirror or your place is probably my favorite. “Dance like nobody’s watching” is the best way to get into shape as a mama. It also helps you decompress after a long day. Dance to 3-5 upbeat songs, and you will definitely get a workout and feel better afterward.

If the workout is fun, you are more likely going to do it again. Also, you tend to work out harder. This is because your mind doesn’t realize your body is being worked, which is Awesome.

The next step for me is to do more workouts during the week now that I have been working out consistently. If you want to join me in this fitness journey, email or comment down below.

I’ll update you next week on how I have been doing with my workouts. Good luck to everyone who is deciding to restart their fitness journey!
